If benzoyl peroxide is so effective, shouldn't I leave it on my skin? |

Actually, no. Leaving benzoyl peroxide on your skin can cause irritation and increase the potential for inflammation and dryness. Most products marketed today contain a low concentration (commonly 2.5% or less) benzoyl peroxide that is left on the skin. However, research shows that acne-causing bacteria are so sensitive, that a brief exposure, such as washing your face, will fight off and treat the bacteria.
Benzoyl peroxide can over-work and start irritating your skin if it is left on for too long. By leaving benzoyl peroxide on all day, it can disrupt the skin’s balance and the good oils that give you a healthy glow. |
